چکیده

hypoxia and hypocapnia can cause broncho-constriction in human subjects, and this could have a bearing on performance at high altitude. the object of this study was to examine how pulmonary ventilatory functions during high-altitude trekking. this study is a cohort study on spirometric parameters at different altitudes. fifty six healthy male volunteers from a university student population were enrolled in the study (ages 22.9±5.3 years). pulmonary function was assessed with a spirolab ii in all participants before ascending at baseline (1150 meter), after ascending at different altitudes (2850, 4150 meter), and after descending at sea level during a 3-day trek in sialan mount. this study indicates that in an actual trek, ascending results in significant decrease in forced vital capacity (fvc). fvc significantly decreased with increasing altitude from baseline level and at the sea level it was significantly less than baseline level. peak flow increased with increasing altitude from baseline (1150 m) to 2850 m and decreased with decreasing altitude (p it could be concluded that changes in some pulmonary ventilatory parameters were proportional to the magnitude of change in altitude during a high-altitude trek. these changes are significant at the beginning of ascending.

Pulmonary function in healthy Pakistani adults at different altitudes.

The pulmonary functions (FVC; FEV1; FEV1 /FVC% and MVV) were measured in healthy Pakistani adults (aged 20 to 40 years) at various altitudes. The subjects were divided into four groups (Group i residing at 500m above sea level; Group-li fresh arrivals at an altitude of 2250m; Group-Ill acclimatised to various altitudes above 3250m and Group-IV highlanders living above 2250m). The effects of age...

Echocardiographic parameters in athletes of different sports.

Competitive athletics is often associated with moderate left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy, and it has been hypothesized that training mode and type of exercise modulates long-term cardiac adaptation. The purpose of the study was to compare cardiac structure and function among athletes of various sports and sedentary controls. Standard transthoracic two-dimensional M-mode and Doppler echocardiog...

The heart and pulmonary circulation at high altitudes: healthy highlanders and chronic mountain sickness.

More than 140 million people worldwide live >2500 m above sea level. Of them, 80 million live in Asia, and 35 million live in the Andean mountains. This latter region has its major population density living above 3500 m. The primary objective of the present study is to review the physiology, pathology, pathogenesis, and clinical features of the heart and pulmonary circulation in healthy highlan...

Response of the chydorid faunas to rapid climatic changes in four alpine lakes at different altitudes

The subfossil assemblages of Chydoridae from Late Glacial/Preboreal sediments of four sites from 603 m to 2290 m asl were analysed to trace the community response to rapid climatic warming that occurred at this period of time. In each site, distinct signals at the Younger Dryas/Preboreal boundary were recorded by density of remains, species diversity or community composition. However, responses...
